Terms of Use

CrimeScore is a monthly index of reported crime intensity for US ZIP codes and counties, built from police incident reports collected by SpotCrime. It describes areas, not people, and it reflects what was reported to and published by police. It is not a prediction of future crime, a measure of any individual's risk, or a statement that any place is safe. Areas with less police reporting can appear safer than they are. Read the methodology before relying on a score.

You may look up scores on this site for personal, research, journalistic, and internal business purposes. You may quote individual scores with attribution to CrimeScore by SpotCrime and a link to the ZIP page. You may not copy the site's design or text wholesale, present the scores as your own, or remove the attribution.

Score pages and the site's API are rate limited per IP address, and requests over the limit receive a 429 response. Please respect that response and the Retry-After header. Bulk collection of scores through the site or its API without a token, evading rate limits, or using multiple addresses to do so is not permitted. Search engine crawlers indexing pages at a reasonable rate are welcome.

• A token identifies you or your organization. Keep it private. You are responsible for requests made with it, and you must tell us promptly if it is exposed.
• Demo tokens cover only the public preview area and exist for evaluation. Full-access tokens cover every published region.
• Tokens are read-only and may be metered or rate limited. We may revoke a token at any time if it is abused, shared, leaked, or used in breach of these terms, and we may revoke or reissue tokens as part of ordinary security practice.
• Unless your written agreement says otherwise, you may use scores obtained with a token inside your own products and decisions, but you may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute the underlying score data as a dataset or feed, and you must attribute CrimeScore by SpotCrime where scores are displayed to end users.

If you use scores in decisions that affect people, such as housing, lending, insurance, or employment, you are responsible for complying with the laws that govern those decisions, including fair housing, fair lending, and anti-discrimination laws. Scores describe reported crime in an area. They are not a substitute for the judgment those laws require, and you must not use them as a proxy for protected characteristics.

The site, the API, and the scores are provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted availability. Police data has gaps and errors, jurisdictions change what they publish, and the model is revised over time. The model_hash on each score identifies the version that produced it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ReportSee, Inc. and its officers, employees, and providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising from the site, the API, or the scores. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars if you paid nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

The site, its design and text, the CrimeScore model, and the score data are owned by ReportSee, Inc. CrimeScore and SpotCrime are its trademarks. ZIP code boundaries shown on the site come from the US Census Bureau and are in the public domain. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of anything to you beyond the limited uses described above.

We may change these terms by posting a new version here with a new effective date. Continued use after that date is acceptance. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaches these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maryland, except that either party may seek injunctive relief anywhere to protect its intellectual property.
